I have come to realize that life is extremely short and many are not given enough time to live their life to the fullest. Last night I discovered that two of my friends from High School were killed in a car accident. These two young adults were only 23 and 21 years old. I remember attending High School with them and sharing laughs once in a while. Though we were not close, it still saddens me that their life was taken away before they got to truly experience life.
Apparently, the driver was under the influence and had missed a turn which resulted in the car crashing through the guard wall of the HOV lane. It is reported that the car fell at least sixty feet off a freeway overpass and landed between the 10 and 710 freeway. The driver and one of the passengers were taken to the hospital for their injuries but the other two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.
What many do not realize is how dangerous it is to drive while under the influence. Though we are constantly warned and told to never drink and drive people still do it. In 2008, approximately 214,828 were arrested for driving under the influence. That was five years ago, I can only imagine how many people were arrested in 2011. It just seems that no matter what we are told by the government, teachers, or even our parents, it will never change the fact that people will still drink and drive. I truly hope that everyone will learn from this incident and my prayers go out to both families. Rest in peace Simon and Joseph, we’ll see you on the other side.
